Royalston Coastal Wildlife Estate is one of the Eastern Cape’s largest Gazetted Private Nature Reserves, boasting many critically endangered species. Animals and game to be found include Zebra, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Sable, Eland, Nyala, Kudu, Waterbuck, Impala, Reedbuck, Springbuck, Bushbuck, Blue Duiker, Bushpig, Warthog, Honey Badger and Otters.

A coastal forest with strandveld and fynbos is classified as a Critical Biodiversity Area. Bordering the lake, large Yellowwood trees, Milkwoods and Wild Olives form canopies which provide sanctuary to a vast array of birdlife, which include Knysna Loerie, Secretary Bird, Fish Eagle, Cape Spotted Eagle Owl and Waterfowl.
